Spring Scalping: Our region is located in what is called a transitional zone. In this zone you will find a combination of warm and cool season grasses. Memphis specifically is home to mostly Bermuda, Zoysia, and Tall fescue for those who have shaded areas. For the warm season grasses (Bermuda and Zoysia) it is a good idea to cut them fairly short prior to greening up. This helps remove old dead grass as well as some thatch, allows the sun’s heat to increase the soil temperature faster encouraging quicker green up times, as well as allowing you to only cut new growth as spring kicks off.
